Feyenoord vs Ajax build-up, pre-match team news & previous lineups

Erik ten Hag’s men head into this weekend’s clash a mammoth 24 points ahead of the Rotterdam giants, who are seeking an improbable third place finish with three matches remaining this season.

A humbling 3-2 loss at relegation threatened ADO Den Haag last time out ended Feyenoord’s recent unbeaten run consisting of six matches (three wins and three draws). It consequently leaves them nine points behind third place AZ with three matches remaining. Before their last meeting with Ajax the Rotterdammers were still in the championship picture but they’ve only picked up five wins across 14 matches since that 1-0 loss. Dick Advocaat’s men though have only tasted one home loss in 15 previous outings.

Following that aforementioned success Ajax would go on to win 12 of their next 14 league matches culminating with a 35th championship. Erik ten Hag’s men have looked supreme on the road this season having won 12 of 15 away trips with just one defeat suffered. They also visit Rotterdam tasting four wins following ten previous visits. That being said, last time at De Kuip they suffered a humiliating 6-2 loss, but that was quickly avenged several weeks later in February 2019 when de Godenzonen ran out 0-3 winners en route to KNVB Beker success.

  • Feyenoord (vs ADO Den Haag): Bijlow; Geertruida, Botteghin, Senesi, Malacia; Fer, Kökcü, Toornstra; Linssen, Bozenik, Sinisterra.
  • Ajax (vs Emmen): Stekelenburg; Rensch, Timber, Martínez, Tagliafico; Gravenberch, Álvarez; Antony, Klaassen, Tadic; Haller.

Steven Berghuis and Jens Toornstra are both suspended for the hosts who also miss Aliou Balde and Bart Nieuwkoop this weekend. As for the Amsterdammers they visit their eternal rivals without the services of suspended left-back Nicolas Tagliafico and long-term absentee Daley Blind.

Player to watch: Dusan Tadic (Ajax)

Chances are Dusan Tadic will end up being named ‘Dutch Footballer of the Year’ after playing a key role in Ajax’s successful title retention. He’s found the net 14 times across 31 previous appearances heading into this weekend’s clash at Feyenoord but it’s setting up others where the Serbian forward has greatly excelled. He currently leads the ‘assist king’ race with 16 and has created at least one goal in each of Ajax’s last four league outings. In fact Tadic has failed to score or assist in just one of the Amsterdammers last 13 league matches (a 0-2 win at Heracles Almelo with Davy Klaassen and Sébastien Haller assisting each other).
