AS Roma continue their push for Champions League football next season when they visit AC Milan on Sunday afternoon.

The Giallorossi currently sit outside the top four places to the tune of six points. Ahead of them is Atalanata, who staged a miraculous comeback to beat title-challengers Lazio in midweek. A win in matchday 28 is a must for Roma if they are to preserve hope of overhauling Serie A’s great entertainers.

Yet their opponents, and hosts, have much to play for, too. Stefano Pioli’s Milan side are chasing a Europa League spot and will be looking to return to winning ways at home after suffering a surprise 1-2 defeat at the hands of Genoa last game at the San Siro.

AC Milan & Roma’s previous line-ups:

  • AC Milan (vs Lecce): Donnarumma; Conti, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Hernández; Bennacer, Kessié; Castillejo, Bonaventura, Calhanoglu; Rebic.
  • Roma (vs Sampdoria): Mirante; Peres, Smalling, Ibañez, Kolarov; Diawara, Veretout; Pérez, Pastore, Mkhitaryan; Dzeko.

Mateo Musacchio, Léo Duarte and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are out for the hosts. Roma boss Paulo Fonseca must do without goalkeeper Pau López while Nicolò Zaniolo is a doubt.

Players to watch:

AC Milan: The last time Milan faced Roma, a game that ended in a 2-1 defeat, Ante Rebic was on the bench. Since re-establishing himself in the Rosseneri’s starting lineup on matchday 20, he’s struck seven times across eight Serie A outings. This run has subsequently seen him become Milan’s leading scorer.

After his latest goal put AC Milan 3-1 up in their midweek away win over Lecce, Rebic took the curious measure of hugging the ballboy. The hosts later explained his reasons.

“[The ball boy] is 19 years old, lives in the province of Lecce and has been playing in our youth team for five years, dreaming of making his debut in the first team with the Giallorossi jersey in an official match,” they wrote.

“In [Monday’s] game with Milan he was a designated ball boy. Rebic, after scoring the goal, saw him heartbroken and, making a nice gesture, embraces him to comfort him.”

Roma: It’s very likely that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has played his final game for Arsenal, but whether he remains at Roma is another question. What is undisputed, though, is his recent form with the Giallorossi, which amounts to three goals and two assists in his last five Serie A appearances.

Scoreline prediction: AC Milan 2-2 Roma
