The Rossoneri are currently occupying the runners-up position and boast a seven-point cushion on rivals Inter, but their neighbours in blue have won the last three Milan derbies as the ‘away’ side at the San Siro and will be looking to extend that run. Incredibly, only once in Serie A history have Milan lost more successive games – each of the first five in the competition between 1929 and 1934.

AC Milan vs Inter Milan previous line-ups & injury news:

  • AC Milan (vs Porto): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli*, Hernandez*; Tonali, Bennacer, Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Giroud.
  • Inter Milan (vs Sheriff Tiraspol): Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Brozovic, Vidal, Dimarco; Dzeko, Martinez.

Samu Castillejo, Alessio Romagnoli, Junior Messias and Mike Maignan are all set to miss out here for Milan, as is the suspended Theo Hernandez, so Stefano Pioli has a massive job on his hands to find a winning formula without several key men. He does, however, welcome back Ante Rebic.

Hakan Calhanoglu set for frosty reception

The Milan-Inter divide has been crossed in the past and remains a well-trodden, but still controversial path for those who seek to trade red for blue, and vice versa. Hakan Calhanoglu is the latest to trade San Siro clubs and the Turkey international faces his first match against his former club here.

The once-cherished Milan playmaker joined the current Scudetto holders in the summer following several key departures from the reigning champions, not least Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi and, of course, title-winning manager Antonio Conte, whom Tottenham are now enjoying the tactical innovation of.

Since appearing in blue and black, Calhanoglu has found the back of the net just once, which came in his Serie A bow for the club on matchday one against Genoa, during which time he also registered his first assist in a 4-0 demolition of the Ligurians.

Although a more creative type, Calhanoglu will be eyeing up a more prolific streak in front of goal, and he will be relishing this fixture against a former fling. The 27-year-old will be set for a frosty reception in front of a capacity San Siro crowd, and he could silence those who once adored him with a moment of inspiration.
