Aaron Ramsey may not have played his last game for Arsenal – Unai Emery
Unai Emery believes Aaron Ramsey can still turn out for Arsenal this season despite picking up a serious hamstring injury during their recent win at Napoli.
The 28-year-old Welsh midfielder came off in the 34th minute as The Gunners cruised to a 0-1 win that secured a Europa League semi-final date with Valencia.
Ramsey’s last season: Five things to know…
- Ramsey joined Arsenal from boyhood club Cardiff City in 2008.
- He’s gone on to make 371 appearances for the club in all competitions, registering 65 goals and the same number in assists.
- This season will be Ramsey’s last at the Emirates Stadium as he’s set to join Juventus on a free this summer.
- So far in 2018/19, he’s bagged six goals and eight assists in 40 matches.
- During his time in north London, he’s won three FA Cups.

Ramsey came into this season with a year left on his Arsenal contract, but talks broke down and he decided to end an 11-year association with the club by opting to join Italian powerhouse Juventus on a free transfer this summer.
Since joining from boyhood club Cardiff City in 2008, turning down interest from Manchester United, he’s gradually become an important figure at the Emirates Stadium with the 2013/14 season being his most prolific campaign to date.
Back then he’d bag 10 goals across 23 league outings, Ramsey is currently six shy of that tally this season, but his overall impact has been appreciated by manager Emery who like many associated with the club were saddened when he went off early against Napoli.
Initially, it was thought Ramsey was done for the season, but Emery has revealed he could still yet feature this season.

“I was speaking to him about 30 minutes ago and we were speaking about that – ‘Maybe in two or three weeks, I can play some matches’,” he said.
“We are going to wait for that – his injury is also bad news and I don’t know how long it will take him out of the team, but maybe two or three weeks.”
Emery has also been delighted with Ramsey’s commitment to Arsenal’s cause despite him soon leaving.
“His process this season has been amazing. In the beginning a little confused because it was the last year of his contract with the club,” he added.
“For us, and for me, he is a very important player, but his confusion maybe did not give us some moments in the season, the performances like he is doing now.
“The last matches his performances have been amazing and helped us a lot in the key moments this season.”
Arsenal’s run-in
At the moment Arsenal have seven matches remaining this season in all competitions (five Premier League and two Europa League).
They are currently locked in battle with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United for two of the remaining Premier League top four spots.
The Gunners also have a Europa League semi-final date with Emery’s former club Valencia to look forward to.
Arsenal were eliminated at this stage last season under Arsene Wenger and have only one major European silverware in their cabinet (1994 Cup Winners’ Cup).
