Canadians play across the rest of the league too, and Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning MVP, is one of them. That gives Canadian bettors a home team and a long list of players to follow. It doesn’t give them one set of rules: each province decides who may take a basketball bet, so NBA betting Canada-wide comes down to your postal code.

Detail

Value

2026-27 regular season

Under way since 20 October 2026 (82 games per team)

Canadian clubs

One, the Toronto Raptors

Main markets

Moneyline, point spread, totals, player props, futures, same game parlays, live betting

Where private sportsbooks operate

Ontario and Alberta

In the other provinces

The provincial lottery platform only

Minimum age

19, or 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec

Odds format

American by default (+150, -110), decimal on the lottery platforms

Where to bet on the NBA in Canada

Licensed private sportsbooks compete for your account in Ontario and Alberta, and you can hold more than one. Everywhere else you get one regulated route. It is your province’s own lottery platform: PlayNow in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Mise-o-jeu+ in Quebec, and Atlantic Lottery in the Atlantic provinces.

The list below is matched to the province you’re in, and it shows an offer only where the rules allow one. Ontario and Alberta bar public bonus advertising, so this page carries no bonus amounts. Readers in the other provinces see the offer value inside the list itself.

How NBA betting works in Canada

Since 27 August 2021, when Bill C-218 came into force, the Criminal Code has allowed betting on a single sporting event. Before that, an NBA bet had to sit inside a multi-game parlay on a provincial lottery product, and nobody could back one game on its own. Now they can. Each province still decides who may take the bet, which is why “where can I bet on the NBA?” has a different answer on each side of a provincial border. Our explainer on whether sports betting is legal in Canada has the detail.

Anyone who searches NBA betting Canada will often land on advice written for American bettors, and it assumes you can open an account anywhere. Here the first question is which sportsbook your province allows. The second is what that sportsbook is offering on tonight’s game.

NBA betting Canada: the province by province picture

NBA betting Canada works province by province. Two provinces run open markets, and the rest send every bet through a provincial operator. We route readers by province because pointing someone in Quebec at a private sportsbook means pointing them at a product their province doesn’t regulate.

Province

Market model

Regulator or operator

Age

Ontario

Open market, private operators

Regulated by the AGCO, run commercially by iGaming Ontario

19+

Alberta

Open market, private operators, from 13 July 2026

Regulated by the AGLC, run commercially by Alberta iGaming Corp

18+

British Columbia

Provincial monopoly

PlayNow, run by BCLC

19+

Manitoba

Provincial monopoly

PlayNow, run by MBLL

18+

Saskatchewan

Provincial monopoly

PlayNow, operated by SIGA and overseen by SLGA

19+

Quebec

Provincial monopoly

Mise-o-jeu+, run by Loto-Québec

18+

Atlantic provinces
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island

Provincial monopoly

Atlantic Lottery sites

19+

Alberta opened its market on 13 July 2026 under advertising rules modelled on Ontario’s, so the same ban on public bonus advertising now covers both of Canada’s open markets. Compare these points before you do.

Compare the price first. The same spread at -105 costs you less than at -110 on every bet, and the number itself can sit half a point apart between books.

See how fast props reprice. NBA player props depend on minutes, so find out how quickly a sportsbook moves a line when the injury report changes, because a slow book leaves stale numbers on the board.

Try the live product. NBA scoring never stops, so a book that suspends its markets after every basket is hard to use, and you should test it on a small bet before a game you care about.

Look at banking and the app. You want Interac in both directions and a bet slip that loads fast on a phone. Our Interac betting sites guide and betting apps guide compare them.

Our betting sites hub links to our full sportsbook reviews.

The main NBA betting markets

Six markets make up the standard NBA menu. Basketball scoring is high and constant, which changes how each one behaves.

Moneyline

Pick the winner, overtime included. Basketball favourites win often, so a strong favourite carries a steep price and an underdog pays well when it lands. A bettor who wants to back a favourite without a steep moneyline price can take the point spread instead. See our moneyline guide.

Point spread

This is the margin bet. The favourite carries a minus number and has to win by more than it. The underdog carries a plus number and covers by losing by less or winning outright. A half-point spread such as -4.5 can’t push. A whole-number spread can, and a push returns your stake. Our point spread guide has the detail.

Totals

Over or under on the combined score of both teams, overtime included. On a total of 224.5, a final of 225 or more wins the over. Totals respond to pace and to who is playing. See over/under betting.

Player props

Points, rebounds, assists and three-pointers made, usually as an over or under on a line. A late scratch or a blowout can sink a prop on a player who had a good night. Rules for a player who doesn’t dress differ by sportsbook. Read them first. Our props guide explains how they’re priced.

Futures

Season-long markets cover the champion, the conference winners, MVP and the other awards, and team win totals. Your stake stays locked until the market settles. Prices move with every injury and trade. Our futures guide covers how the money works.

Same game parlays

Two or more legs from one game share a slip, such as a team’s spread and the over. Those legs are linked, and the sportsbook prices the link in, so the payout is smaller than multiplying the separate prices would suggest. Our parlay guide shows how same game parlays are priced.

How to read NBA betting odds: a worked example

Private sportsbooks in Canada default to American odds and the lottery platforms default to decimal, so -110 and 1.91 are the same price written two ways. The numbers below are invented to show the arithmetic and aren’t a current line. Take a game where the home team is a 4.5-point favourite.

Home team -4.5 at -110. The home team has to win by five or more. A -110 price means you risk 110 to win 100, scaled to whatever you stake. In decimal it reads 1.91.

Visitors +4.5 at -110. The visitors cover if they lose by four or fewer, or if they win. Same price, same 1.91.

What -110 costs. Each side implies a 52.4 per cent chance. Together they add to 104.8 per cent, and the 4.8 points over 100 are what the sportsbook keeps as its margin.

Now the moneyline on the same game, with the home team at -180 and the visitors at +150. A -180 price implies 64.3 per cent and +150 implies 40 per cent. That’s 104.3 in all, and a -180 favourite has to win about 64 games in 100 for the bet to break even.

That margin is why shopping lines pays. At -105 on both sides of the spread the margin falls to 2.4 points, and the gap adds up over a season. Our odds guide shows how to convert between American and decimal prices.

How to bet on basketball: NBA betting strategy that survives a season

The NBA plays almost every night. Nobody needs to bet most of those games, and a few habits do more for a bettor’s season than any model does.

Check availability first

A star who sits moves the spread, the total and every prop on that player. NBA statuses settle on game day, sometimes minutes before tip-off, and the league’s official injury report is the one to trust near the start. Never build a pick on a Questionable player playing. If your bet depends on him, wait, or treat the pick as conditional. Our NBA injury report collects the day’s statuses.

Treat rest as a small edge

Back-to-backs and long road trips can show in the fourth quarter. The effect is real, and it’s small next to the question of who sits on the second night, which takes you back to availability. Rest alone is a thin reason to back a team.

Shop the line

Hold accounts at more than one sportsbook if your province allows it, as Ontario and Alberta do. Half a point on the spread or a few cents of price is then yours for the asking. Where one platform is your only option, the discipline is patience: bet when the number suits you and pass when it doesn’t.

Keep props honest

A prop is a bet on minutes as much as on skill. Look at the rotation and the day’s injury list before you take one, because a teammate’s absence can change a player’s minutes before the line catches up.

Size your bets like a season

The usual guideline is a flat stake between one and two per cent of your bankroll. Keep it the same after a win and after a loss, and write every bet down so you can see, a month on, which of your habits are paying. Our bankroll management guide covers the arithmetic.

Common NBA betting mistakes

Betting before the injury list settles. A starter ruled out can move the spread and the total, and a price you took early is only good if the lineup holds.

Reading Questionable as playing. It means undecided. Make the pick work for both outcomes, or wait.

Parlaying everything. Each extra leg cuts your chance of cashing, and linked legs in one game are priced against you.

Trusting last season’s standings. Rosters turn over every summer, and the market has priced the changes already, so look at the current roster before you lean on last year’s record.

Paying for a heavy favourite. At -300, a team has to win 75 games in 100 to break even, which is a high bar over a season.

Ignoring the price. Taking -115 when -110 is on offer elsewhere trims the profit on every bet that wins.

Keeping no record of your bets. Without one you can’t tell whether a hunch has paid.

Chasing a bad night. Raising stakes to win it back is how a bankroll ends. Set a limit before you open the app, and use the deposit limits your sportsbook offers.

Raptors betting: the next five games

The Raptors are where NBA betting Canada starts, so their schedule sits right here.

Here are the Raptors’ next five regular-season games as the schedule stood on Tuesday 27 October 2026.
