This page tracks NHL odds across the Canadian market: what the books are pricing, where the line has moved since it opened, and where two books disagree enough to be worth shopping. Prices were captured on 23 September 2026 from Betano, PlayNow and PointsBet. Availability varies by province, so not every book listed is open to every reader.<\/p>\n

Most NHL odds pages show you a board. This one shows you the board and what it looked like two weeks ago, because a price on its own tells you what a book thinks today, while the same price next to its opening number tells you which way the money has gone and how far the market has already adjusted.<\/p>\n

American odds lead throughout, with the decimal price in brackets. That is the format the private operators display; the provincial lottery books default to decimal.<\/p>\n\n

The three NHL odds markets<\/h2>\n

Moneyline.<\/strong> Which team wins, overtime and shootout included. This is the main hockey market, and because hockey is low-scoring it is where most of the money goes.<\/p>\n

Puck line.<\/strong> The hockey handicap, and it is almost always fixed at 1.5 goals. The favourite must win by two or more; the underdog can lose by one and still pay. That fixed 1.5 is what makes it different from a football spread, which moves.<\/p>\n

Total.<\/strong> Combined goals, over or under, usually set at 5.5 or 6.5. As the section below shows, that one-goal difference between books is more common than you might expect, and it matters more than the price attached to it.<\/p>\n

Opening night odds compared<\/h2>\n

Every game on 29 September, moneyline, priced at two Canadian books on 23 September. Where they differ, the better number for each side is the one worth taking.<\/p>\n\n

Four of the five games have a better number at one book than the other on at least one side. On Toronto the gap is the difference between -128 and -120. That looks small. Over a season of moneyline bets it is most of the margin.<\/p>\n

Where the line has moved since it opened<\/h2>\n

The board first went up on 7 September. Six capture days later, most prices have barely moved, which is normal for a market with no games to react to. Two have.<\/p>\n\n

The Edmonton line is the interesting one, because the two books moved in opposite directions. Betano opened Edmonton at -270 and shortened to -303. PlayNow opened at -323 and drifted out to -303. They started 6 cents apart and converged on the same number from either side, which usually means the early prices were a difference of opinion rather than a difference in information.<\/p>\n

Toronto shortened at Betano while Montréal lengthened, so that market has taken money on the home side. PlayNow did not move its Toronto moneyline at all over the same period, but did cut the Toronto puck line on 23 September. A book trimming the handicap and leaving the moneyline alone is pricing the margin, not the winner.<\/p>\n

The same game, two different totals<\/h2>\n

The clearest edge on the board right now is not a price. It is a line.<\/p>\n\n

Betano has Montréal at Toronto priced at 5.5 goals. PlayNow and PointsBet both have it at 6.5. That is a full goal of disagreement on the same game, and it is worth more than any price difference on this page.<\/p>\n

A six-goal game settles as over at Betano and under at the other two. If you think the game goes over, the 5.5 line is the one to take. If you think it stays low, 6.5 gives you an extra goal of room. Two books being a full goal apart this close to a season is unusual, and it will probably close before opening night.<\/p>\n

How to shop for NHL odds in Canada<\/h2>\n

Which books you can use depends on your province.<\/strong> Ontario and Alberta have open private markets, so several operators compete there. British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan run through PlayNow, Quebec through Mise-O-Jeu+, and Atlantic Canada through ALC. Shop the total before you shop the price.<\/strong> A different line is worth more than a better price on the same line. Hockey totals sit on 5.5 or 6.5 often enough that the split above is not rare, and when you find one it is the single most valuable thing on a board of NHL odds.<\/p>\n

Check the starting goaltender first.<\/strong> Hockey prices move on goaltending more than on anything else. A confirmed backup can move a moneyline further than an injury to a top-line forward, and those confirmations land in the hours before puck drop. Understand what a move tells you.<\/strong> A price that shortens has taken money. That does not make it right. It does mean you are getting a worse number than the people who bet before you.<\/p>\n

Reading American and decimal odds<\/h2>\n

American odds show what you win or what you risk on 100 units. +210 means a 100 bet returns 210 in profit. -303 means you risk 303 to win 100. Decimal shows the total return including your stake, so 3.10 returns 310 on a 100 bet, profit plus stake together.<\/p>\n

Private operators in Canada display American by default. PlayNow, Proline+ and Mise-O-Jeu+ display decimal. Most books let you switch the format in settings, and the underlying price is identical either way.<\/p>\n\n

What are the best NHL odds in Canada right now?<\/strong>

It depends on the side. On opening night, Betano had the better number on Montreal and Chicago, while PlayNow had the better number on Toronto, Boston, Vancouver and Vegas. That is why comparing books game by game is worth the time.<\/p><\/div>
