West Ham United ‘eye £25m move for out-of-favour Arsenal winger Theo Walcott’

West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a £25million move for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.

The 28-year-old did actually enjoy a fine season in front of goal during the 2016/17 campaign as only Alexis Sanchez (30) netted more than his 19 goals across all competitions – including efforts against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

However, he lost his place in the side following Arsene Wenger’s decision to switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation in mid-April – making four appearances from that point – and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup final victory over the Blues.

According to the Daily Mirror, Walcott grew frustrated at his lack of game time towards the end of the season – but refused to air his issues in public – but realises that he’s at an age where he must be playing regularly.

In addition, the report states that the winger still retains hope of being included in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for next summer’s World Cup and accepts that aim will be all but impossible if he fails to force his way into Arsene Wenger’s plans at the Emirates Stadium.

This news is set to alert the Hammers as Slaven Bilic – who has been linked with Walcott’s teammate Olivier Giroud – is keen to bolster his striking options ahead of the new season as not a single player across his squad reached double figures in the season just gone.

A pacy forward, capable of playing through the middle or on the right-flank, Walcott netted 10 times in the top flight of English football last term – including one in the 3-0 win over the east London outfit – and weighed in with two assists.

Theo Walcott won 50% of average duels for Arsenal in the Premier League during the 2016/17 season.
