The 31-year-old right-back was given a yellow card after appearing to strike Suarez across the face in the second half. The incident came four minutes after the Uruguayan opened the scoring for the home side to make it 1-0, and goals from Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal rounded off an emphatic victory that left the visitors flying 14 points above Real Madrid, the defending La Liga champions.
Barcelona’s win suggests the title race has effectively been decided, with second-placed Atletico Madrid languishing nine points behind them.
Dani Carvajal’s sending-off early in the second half for a blatant handball exacerbated the situation for Madrid, who were forced to watch on as Lionel Messi converted from the spot to score his 15th Clasico goal at the Bernabeu.
The penalty took Messi’s goal tally for the season to 15, the most in La Liga.
When asked about the challenge on Suarez in the mixed zone after the game, Ramos defended his actions. He is quoted by Spanish outlet Marca: “In Barcelona I’m sure they think I should be put in prison like Puigdemont. I didn’t mean to get him.”
Ramos was referring to Carles Puigdemont, Catalonia’s former President who is at the forefront of the region’s drive for independence from Spain and is currently in exile in Belgium to avoid arrest at the hands of Spanish authorities.
Today’s victory means that Messi has won 17 Clasicos with Barcelona – while Ramos has seen the most defeats, with 17.
Asked whether failing to win in the league against Barcelona in 2017 constitutes a failure, Ramos said: “Anyone who thinks that just needs to look back at 2017 and review the statistics.”
How Barcelona fans reacted to Ramos and Suarez incident…
Sergio Ramos literally performed the most theatrical of dives when Juan Cuadrado brushed against him. Irony forever entwined with football. https://t.co/dBVRQtR9C6

You’re telling me that Sergio Ramos said something stupid again? It’s always the case every time he opens his mouth.

Ramos can't get out his own way..had the cheek to argue with the ref! If he wasn't trying to land one on Suarez what was he trying to do?
