The top 10 most improved Premier League players from FIFA 18’s ratings refresh

With the current Premier League campaign just nine games away from its conclusion, EA Sports have rolled out their player upgrades for FIFA 18.

As all deals following the winter transfer window are finalised and no more players will be changing clubs, FIFA’s Ultimate Team system has gone through a “ratings refresh” to better reflect players’ form in the first-half of the season.

While the title race is just four wins away from being over, the lower half of the table still promises excitement thanks to some fine performances from a handful of players (and the fact only seven points separates 10th from 18th).

And though the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have been rewarded for their form with upgrades, some of the bigger movers come from the bottom 10.

Below are the 10 most improved Premier League players from FIFA 18’s ratings refresh.

10. Jamaal Lascelles (+3)

Age: 24

Current club: Newcastle United

Position: CB

FIFA rating: (73 – 76)

Key stat: Only strikers Dwight Gayle (5) and Joselu (4) have scored more Premier League goals than Jamaal Lascelles (3) for Newcastle this season.

Newcastle’s captain, Lascelles has led by example this season. Twice was he the saviour in September, with goals winning the Magpies matches against Swansea and Stoke City.

9. Richarlison (+3)

Age: 20

Current club: Watford

Position: LW

FIFA rating: (73 – 76)

Key stat: No Premier League player has been fouled more times than Richarlison (82) this season.

One of the more impressive signings from last summer, Richarlison was rewarded for his fine form at the start of the season in the ratings refresh. It has also seen him linked with a move away from Watford.

8. Johann Berg Gudmundsson (+3)

Age: 27

Current club: Burnley

Position: RM

FIFA rating: (73 – 76)

Key stat: Johann Berg Gudmundsson has created more chances (48) than any other Burnley player this season.

With Burnley riding high in the Premier League, many of their players received upgrades in the winter ratings refresh. One such player was Gudmundsson, who was rewarded for his attacking displays.

7. Fernandinho (+3)

Age: 32

Current club: Manchester City

Position: CDM

FIFA rating: (82 – 85)

Key stat: Fernandinho averages more successful passes per 90 minutes this season than any other Premier League midfielder with 10+ appearances (79.6).

While Kevin De Bruyne receives much of the plaudits for the way Manchester City are playing right now, Fernandinho has been phenomenal in the centre of midfield, allowing the Belgian to be more creative.

6. Harry Maguire (+4)

Age: 25

Current club: Leicester City

Position: CB

FIFA rating: (75 – 79)

Key stat: Harry Maguire has averaged seven defensive actions per game this season.

A newcomer to the Premier League last season with Hull City, Maguire has continued his impressive form with Leicester and is expected to be with the England squad for the World Cup.

5. Ruben Loftus-Cheek (+5)

Age: 22

Current club: Crystal Palace

Position: CAM

FIFA rating: (69 – 74)

Key stat: Ruben Loftus-Cheek has won 61% of his duels this season.

Despite being hampered by injuries, the on-loan Chelsea midfielder has impressed at Crystal Palace including making his England debut this season.

4. Moritz Bauer (+5)

Age: 26

Current club: Stoke City

Position: RB

FIFA rating: (70 – 75)

Key stat: Moritz Bauer wins more tackles per 90 minutes on average than any Stoke defender (1.86).

A winter signing from Russian side Rubin Kazan, Bauer will have received his upgrade as a result of the move to one of FIFA’s biggest leagues.

3. James Tarkowski (+5)

Age: 25

Current club: Burnley

Position: CB

FIFA rating: (73 – 78)

Key stat: James Tarkowski has made more defensive actions than any other Burnley player (242) in the league this season.

Another member of Burnley’s impressive team, Tarkowski has been a rock at the back for Sean Dyche’s men, who could seriously be in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

2. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (+6)

Age: 20

Current club: Everton

Position: ST

FIFA rating: (65 – 71)

Key stat: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has assisted more goals in the Premier League this season than any Everton teammate (4).

One of a host of young English players coming through and showing promise in the Premier League this season, Calvert-Lewin has scored four goals so far as Everton try to make up for the loss of Romelu Lukaku.

1. Ahmed Hegazi (+7)

Age: 27

Current club: West Bromwich Albion

Position: CB

FIFA rating: (68 – 75)

Key stat: Only Shane Duffy (327) and Christopher Schindler (298) have made more defensive actions than Ahmed Hegazi (293) in the Premier League this season.

Rewarded for an incredible start to the season which saw the Egyptian score on his debut and keep three clean sheets in five games.
