Stones and Sterling start for England as Southgate makes two changes v Slovenia

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford all start for England in this evening’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

With Dele Alli ruled out of the game at Wembley through suspension, Gareth Southgate appears to have tweaked his formation and gone with an attacking line-up which includes captain for the night Harry Kane leading the line.

Sterling, who has netted five Premier League goals for Manchester City so far this season, is given another opportunity to stake his claim for a regular place out wide, while Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford can look to pick up from where he left off in the last international break.

Perhaps the most surprising inclusion in Southgate’s XI is Oxlade-Chamberlain. The midfielder hasn’t been in the best of form or a regular in the Liverpool team since his move from Arsenal, but has the chance to prove some doubters wrong.

Joe Hart retains his place in between the sticks, while the back four includes Man City duo Kyle Walker and John Stones – who comes in for Phil Jones – Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand is at left-back and there’s another start for Chelsea’s Gary Cahill.
