Adrien Rabiot is not short of potential suitors with Manchester United keeping tabs on him, but Chelsea have reportedly made a £7 million bid for the young talent.
Something of a unknown prospect, Rabiot is one of the most promising emerging talents in France and there are many reasons why Paris Saint-Germain will be hoping to keep hold of their 19-year-old star.
With PSG facing a fight to keep hold of the midfielder, it has prompted us to take a look at what all the fuss is surrounding the highly-sought after individual.
Where Does He Play?
Rabiot is a central midfielder and is predominately seen as a box-to-box midfielder. The Parisian born youngster can also play defensive midfield, as he did a few times last season, as well as on the left-hand side of the midfield.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The youngster is renowned for his passing capabilities and his astute 90% pass accuracy in Ligue 1 last represents that. Rabiot misplaced just 83 passes in his 25 appearances in the French division and at just 19 years of age, it bodes brilliantly for his future.
Rabiot is more defensive-minded and he can be excused for his faltering ability to grab a goal or two. He managed just two in his 25 appearances and his shot accuracy is a measly 39%. Of course at such a tender age, he has plenty of time to improve that as he it will be needed when he is utilised more often.
Where Will He Fit In?
Chelsea have no shortage of midfielders in Ramires, Nemanja Matic, John Obi Mikel, Oscar and others all occupying the central positions. However, apart from Matic, Chelsea do not boast the finest of holding midfielders and Mourinho will be keen to use Rabiot and Matic in tandem as the Blues’ main men in the midfield.
With Frank Lampard departing this summer, Matic can act as a mentor to the young Frenchman and it could prove a shrewd acquisition in west London.
Stand Out Stat
Rabiot had the third-highest pass accuracy in the entire Ligue 1 for players aged 21 or below, with team-mates Marco Verrati and Marquinhos taking the top two spots.
The Blues offered £7 million for Rabiot, but it is thought that the French giants will command a much larger fee for their star man. The signing will lean more towards a sum in the area of £12-15 million.
A hugely promising teenager and quite simply, Rabiot has the world at his feet. One of France’s most sensational youngsters, Chelsea will be eager to get their hands on a player who is in hot demand.
