Spurs prepare offer for Roman striker Mattia Destro

Mauricio Pochettino could move quickly to make his first signing as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, with the Metro reporting that he will  make a £14million offer to sign Mattia Destro from Roma this summer.

Pochettino was only confirmed as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, but he has reportedly already held talks with chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Franco Baldini to discuss summer transfers, having been promised funds to improve his squad.

Pochettino is thought to prefer younger players to infuse into the squad and Michy Batshuanyi has already linked with a switch to Spurs and Destro fits that billing, with the Italian international currently aged just 23 years of age.

The Argentine coach was believed to be keen on Destro during his time with Southampton, with the Italian’s versatility up front thought to appeal, with the Roma attacker able to drop onto the flanks as well as playing up top as a centre-forward.

The player’s agent is of the belief that the player will still be at Roma next season but Tottenham are reportedly set to test that theory with a bid in the region of £14m, though any deal between club and player will have to wait until the conclusion of the World Cup as Destro is currently part of Cesar Prandelli’s squad for the tournament in Brazil.

Mattia Destro scored 13 goals in 20 appearances for Roma, converting 37.1% of his shots on goal.
