Sassuolo suspect Roma interest in Domenico Berardi as Mohamed Salah leaves for Liverpool
Sassuolo director general Giovanni Carnevali has admitted Domenico Berardi could be a target for Roma as they hunt for a replacement for the Liverpool-bound Mohamed Salah.
Roma winger Salah is expected to secure a big-money transfer to Liverpool this week, leaving the Italian club in need of a new forward to take the Egyptian’s place.
Former Sassuolo manager Eusebio Di Francesco has been named the new manager of Roma and is therefore aware of the qualities that Berardi possesses.
And while Carnevali would much prefer to retain the services of Berardi the Sassuolo director has revealed that Roma could be keen on doing a deal for the 22-year-old.
Speaking at the presentation of Cristian Bucchi as the club’s new coach, Carnevali told Premium Sport (per Football-Italia): “We hope Berardi can make the same choice as last season.
“That means staying at Sassuolo. We’d love him to become our symbol, it would be nice to continue with him. That said, choices have to be made by more people, and we have to understand what he wants to do.
“Roma could be interested because he was one of Di Francesco’s most important players, but they haven’t made any advance so far Last year we received so many offers, this year there are even more. We hope he will stay, but there are other players in Serie A.
“Whoever wants to stay has to be wedded to the Sassuolo project, so it’s up to him. I hope I don’t hear from Roma anymore!”
Former Juventus winger Berardi has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea and it appears likely the Italian will get a big-money move during the transfer window.
