Robbie Fowler: Daniel Sturridge should be starting for Liverpool

Daniel Sturridge is seen by many as Liverpool‘s best striker, but with constant competition from the young Divock Origi, he finds his place in Jurgen Klopp’s team constantly in doubt.

Liverpool have scored the most goals in the Premier League in 2016, with the ball hitting the back of the net 46 times, and it’s down to the fact that Klopp has got his forwards firing, with five players hitting double figures last season.

Now with even more options added in the summer window, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane arriving from Newcastle United and Southampton, he has plenty of decisions to make on a weekly basis.

With so many decisions to make in terms of starting line-ups, Klopp will always end up leaving someone out now and then, but quite often it seems to be Sturridge.

The 27-year-old England international scored the most goals at Liverpool last year with 13 in all competitions, despite not playing half of their games, but that’s precisely the problem he has.

His fitness doesn’t allow Klopp to build his attack around him, so the German is constantly looking for other ways for his team to blend and find the right balance in the final third.
