Reports: Liverpool’s Pepe Reina on verge of completing shock Bayern Munich switch
Reports within the Italian media have emerged claiming Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is on the verge of completing a shock £1.6 million move to Bayern Munich. Furthermore, according to TMW
The Spain international spent the previous season on loan under ex-Reds boss Rafael Benitez at Napoli, and was linked with a return to Barcelona multiple times while Pep Guardiola, now in charge at the Allianz, managed the La Liga giants.
Reina’s ties to Barca obviously run much deeper, having graduated from La Masia and broken into the Catalan side’s first-team in 2000, after which the 31-year-old went on to make 49 appearances before moving to Villareal.
In 2006, Reina picked up an FA cup winner’s medal with Liverpool, the culmination of his debut season at Anfield, and subsequently delivered several stellar seasons before form eventually declined and costly mistakes crept into the Spaniard’s game.

Perhaps in some ways the result of an acrimonious departure to Serie A, involving an open letter addressing Reina’s fans, though the shot-stopper is currently Brendan Rodgers’ third-choice in goal and took no part in the recent International Champions Cup competition.
However, Reina’s stock remains relatively high and Guardiola is reportedly eager to add another goalkeeper of international quality to his squad as back-up to Manuel Neuer.
Ther German number one’s current competition consists of Tom Starke and Lukas Raeder, each of whom featured in two games last season.
According to TMW, the deal looks increasingly likely and could even be finalised as early as today and further discussions could conceivably take place between the two sides, as Liverpool apparently remain keen on signing Xherdan Shaqiri.
Over 31 appearances last season, Manuel Neuer conceded, on average, 0.58 goals per game, while Lukas Raeder and Tom Starke, over two appearances apiece, conceded 1.5.
