Monaco’s Jemerson: Alexandre Lacazette is one of the toughest players I’ve faced
Prior to his £52m move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, the France international was one of the most prolific strikers in Ligue 1 and came up against the Brazilian international on three separate occasions in the league.
The first of which came towards the end of the 2015/16 campaign in which Lacazette netted a hat-trick in a 6-1 win for Lyon over Monaco and Jemerson admits the 25-year-old as well as Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani are among the best strikers in the world.
“Cavani and Lacazette,” he told Goal when asked to name the opponents to have given him the toughest time.
“Besides their quality with the ball, they are very intelligent without the ball, they move a lot, they know how to get away from the defenders, they open spaces.
“They make life very difficult for the defenders.”
Jemerson has developed into a key member of the Monaco squad since arriving in January 2016 and made 34 appearances in the club’s title-winning campaign last term and has started this season with two goals from four games.
‘He gave passes that we couldn’t believe’
A product of the Atletico Mineiro academy, Jemerson was afforded the opportunity to play alongside former Barcelona, AC Milan and Brazil playmaker Ronaldinho. For him, the attacking midfielder is the best he’s played with.
“That’s an easy question. (Ronaldinho) Gaucho!
“What he did in games and training at Atletico was incredible, no doubt he is the best player I ever played with.
‘The control he has with the ball is awesome. He can control any pass. His passes are amazing too.
“He gave passes that we couldn’t believe. Me and the others defenders were looking at each other and thinking: ‘How did he give that pass and find the forward there?’ He is amazing.”
