Man Utd star Romelu Lukaku has recovered from ankle injury, says Jan Vertonghen

Romelu Lukaku will be ready for Manchester United‘s game against Liverpool on Saturday despite picking up a slight ankle injury during the international break, according to Belgium team mate Jan Vertonghen.

The striker missed Belgium’s 4-3 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign after hurting his ankle during United’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace before the international break.

Lukaku did return to help the Beglian Red Devils beat Cyprus 4-0, scoring the final goal, and Tottenham Hotspur defender Vertonghen is convinced the striker will be fully fit for United’s crunch clash against their old rivals.

“The goal he got against Cyprus was so typical, a ball in behind and he brushed defenders off and smashed the ball into the net,” Vertonghen told reporters.

“I am sure he will be fine for Manchester United at the weekend.

“He used the first week with us to get fit. He was injured, I spoke to him and his ankle wasn’t in good shape but he has used the time well to recover and he is back and fit again.”

Having signed from Everton for £75million during the summer transfer window, Lukaku has quickly began repaying his high fee with 11 goals across all competitions.

Premier League Golden Boot race

Seven goals in the Premier League sees Lukaku currently leading the way for goals scored, one ahead of Harry Kane – who has won the golden boot in each of the past two seasons.

Playing all 630 minutes of the Premier League so far, Lukaku has averaged one goal per 90 minutes, a record which sees him only above Kane (0.87), with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling (both 1.16) and Alvaro Morata (1.10) all averaging over a goal per 90.

Lukaku is also the league’s top scorer with his left foot, but the solitary headed goal sees him falling behind Chelsea striker Morata who has scored 50% of his goals with his head.

Despite having not scored in August, Spurs striker Kane is the only player from the top five scorers to score from outside the box. And no player has scored more from outside the box than the Englishman’s two.

Romelu Lukaku’s seven Premier League goals have come from 15 shots on target (excluding blocked shots)
