The latest striker on Manchester United’s summer transfer wishlist is Marseille’s Andre-Pierre Gignac, according to reports from Sports Media Set.
There has been issues at Old Trafford with strikers this season. Robin van Persie has struggled for both form and fitness, Radamel Falcao has looked a mere shadow of the fierce striker we once saw firing in goals in La Liga, Wayne Rooney has too often been deployed in a deep midfield position and James Wilson doesn’t possess the experience to lead the Red Devils’ frontline on a regular basis.
And it appears as though Louis van Gaal has turned his attention to Gignac as the man to solve Man United’s striking issues.
The France international has been in impressive form scoring 20 goals in Ligue 1 this season and featuring in every one of Marseille’s league fixtures. The goal machine is even outscoring Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has 19 goals in Ligue 1.
At 29-years-old, Gignac doesn’t represent a long-term solution for the Red Devils but would certainly be able to bring some much needed firepower to the Theatre of Dreams next season. As for youngsters Man United have the aforementioned James Wilson and have just signed 21-year-old Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.
If the rumours are to be believed and both Falcao and Van Persie are leaving this summer (via talkSPORT) then the experienced Gignac would make a sensible replacement at the top of Van Gaal’s formation.
