Jose Mourinho hits back at de Boer over Rashford comments: “Worst Premier League manager ever”

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hit back at Frank de Boer for his comments on Marcus Rashford, calling him the “worst manager in the history of the Premier League”.

The former Crystal Palace boss said that it was a “pity” Mourinho is Rashford’s manager, believing he has stunted the Englishman’s development since taking over at United.

Rashford was given his first-team debut under Louis van Gaal in the 2015/16 season and has since scored 31 goals in 111 games in all competitions.

And after hearing the comments from De Boer, Mourinho did not hold back in his criticism of the former Palace manager.

He told reporters ahead of United’s Champions League game against Sevilla: “I heard the worst manager in the history of the Premier League, Frank de Boer – seven games, seven defeats, zero goals – saying that it was bad for Rashford to be managed by me because he would never play.

“If he was coached by Frank de Boer he would learn how to lose, because he lost every game.”

De Boer started this season in charge of Palace but lasted just four Premier League games as the Eagles were bottom of the table, winless and goalless.

The Dutchman was originally speaking on Saturday following his former side’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, reviewing the weekend’s action.

“It’s a pity that the manager is Mourinho, because he’s an English player and you want him to be given time,” the former Crystal Palace and Ajax boss told BT Sport (via Goal).

“He can make mistakes but Mourinho is not like that and if he has one or two not good games then he puts him out.

“He’s very young, he needs games. But he’s so talented and you want to see him play every week.”

Rashford’s performance on Saturday should be enough to earn his place in the side on Tuesday night, especially when Anthony Martial is yet to completely recover from an unspecified injury, and new signing Alexis Sanchez has struggled to fit into his role on the left flank since arriving from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

‘Classic Mourinho’ – Fans react to the United manager’s comments

Mourinho’s scathing remarks at the expense of De Boer had football fans of all clubs in pieces on Twitter, with the Portuguese no stranger to verbal battles.
