James Collins hails “tremendous” West Ham duo Lanzini and Payet
James Collins has hailed his two West Ham team-mates, Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini, following their “tremendous” start at Upton Park, as per the club’s official website.
The 32-year-old centre-half started his first Premier League game of the season away at Crystal Palace on Saturday, helping the visitors to their fourth away win in five games.
The Hammers’ 3-1 victory over their London rivals was clinched late on with the final two goals coming from Lanzini and Payet.
The Wales international has watched the pair integrate immediately into Slaven Bilic’s set-up at Upton Park, and the defender believes the duo’s creativity has been exceptional.
Collins said: “Manuel has been tremendous – him and Dimitri are both flair players who can create chances and score goals. Both of them are doing unbelievably for us.
“We’ve got boys who work hard and get behind the ball. We defend well and the lads up front score goals. So anywhere we go we know that if we defend well we’ll create chances.”
Little Argentinian Lanzini and French playmaker Payet have bagged seven of West Ham’s whopping 20 Premier League goals this term.
The former Marseille man has established himself as a real hero already in East London with his class shining through, while loan signing Lanzini has been a surprisingly big contributor so far.
Payet’s late chip at Selhurst Park was his fifth league goal of the campaign. His more well-known trait of assisting teammates, though, currently has him ranked as the league’s most creative player with three.
Lanzini has started every league match since making his full debut in the win at Anfield. The pair’s work ethic of tracking back has also earned them many plaudits, including that of Collins.
