Jack Wilshere ‘plots mid-season Arsenal exit’ amid West Ham and Palace links
The Gunners’ No.10 has not played for England since the 2-1 defeat to Iceland at last year’s European Championships and is also yet to play for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.
Wilshere’s contract with the Gunners runs out at the end of the season and, according to the Times, talks over a new deal are yet to take place, with the midfielder now willing to look elsewhere for playing time.
The 25-year-old has played three games for Arsenal so far this season, in their Carabao cup win over Doncaster Rovers and Europa League ties against Cologne and Bate Borisov.
To help Wilshere recover from numerous spells out injured, Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and played 27 times in the Premier League – the first time he played more than 20 games since the 2013/14 season.
Wilshere has also made the bench in Arsenal’s past two Premier League games before the international break, but was not brought on by manager Arsene Wenger.
The midfielder only has four more chances to get into Gareth Southgate’s England squad, with friendlies against Germany and Brazil scheduled for the November international break and England playing Italy and the Netherlands next March.
With Arsenal reportedly not wanting to send him out on loan so close to his contract ending, a permanent deal is the only way Wilshere can get his playing time, with West Ham United and Crystal Palace said to be the most likely destinations.
Jack Wilshere used spell at Bournemouth well
Under Eddie Howe’s stewardship last season, Wilshere helped Bournemouth finish ninth – the club’s highest ever finish in their second season in the Premier League.
Despite missing the last five games of the season through injury, Wilshere managed to create a club-high 34 chances for Bournemouth at a rate of 1.60 per 90 minutes. Only Harry Arter matched him for chances created.
Of those 34 chances, Wilshere also recorded two assists – albeit in defeats to Everton and Southampton.
The Englishman was also able to show off his passing abilities with a pass accuracy of 84%, completing 864 of his 1,030 attempted passes.
