“Garry Monk’s intricate payback?” – Leeds Utd fans irked as Boro sign Jonny Howson

“Garry Monk’s intricate payback?” – Leeds Utd fans irked as Boro sign Jonny Howson

Leeds fan favourite Jonny Howson is set to join Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough from Norwich City – and it hasn’t gone down well.

A fee has been agreed between the two clubs and Howson will have a medical this afternoon before completing the move.

The former Leeds midfielder had been linked with a return to his old side this summer to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.

But the 29-year-old will now link up with former Leeds boss Garry Monk at recently relegated Middlesbrough as they look to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Howson played 35 times for Norwich last season in the Championship, scoring five goals, and Leeds fans were generally excited to see their former player once again at Elland Road wearing their white strip.

Howson spent six years at Leeds before joining Norwich in 2012.

A move to Middlesbrough with Monk, who perhaps initiated Leeds’ interest in the midfielder before leaving the club in the summer, has a number of the club’s supporters riled up.

Others maintain that Leeds were not actually in for Howson, feeling that the club could not afford to sign him.

And then there was this discussion…
