Real Madrid have been handed a major boost ahead of this weekend’s El Clasico with Barcelona after the La Liga giants announced that Gareth Bale has returned to first team training.
Bale was a serious doubt for this weekend’s match with Barcelona after suffering an injury during Madrid’s first leg Champions League clash with Bayern Munich last week.
The Welshman missed the eventual victory over the Germans on Wednesday but a Real Madrid statement confirmed that Bale was back in training with the first team on Thursday ahead of a return to La Liga action on Sunday.
There is now hope that the 27-year-old – who has seven La Liga goals this season – will be able to play some role in the match with the Catalans, as Real look to secure their spot at the top of the division.
Zinedine Zidane’s side already sit three points ahead of Barcelona and have a game in hand on their opponents.
