From Hugo Lloris to Aguero: the Premier League team of 2016

2016 is almost complete and in the footballing world it was been an extraordinary year, full of surprises, shocks, managerial arrivals and that’s just talking about the Premier League.

Last season ended with Leicester City being crowned champions of England for the first time in their history and Manchester United clinched their first piece of silverware in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era with victory in the FA Cup final, although it wasn’t enough to keep Louis van Gaal in a job.

We’ve seen two sides of Chelsea throughout the year. One that finished 10th in league following a poor start to the defence of their title and and the other that has surged to the top of the table this season after 12 straight wins.

Liverpool have made giants strides under Jurgen Klopp in 2016, Arsenal are pretty much Arsenal, Tottenham are making steady progress with Mauricio Pochettino and Manchester City will be hoping for great success now that they’ve finally managed to lure Pep Guardiola.

With that said, picking an XI of the best players in the Premier League this year proved extremely difficult as there has been plenty of high-profile omissions.
