Sessegnon has been a sensation in the Championship this season, scoring 14 goals in 37 appearances to aid Fulham’s play-off push.
That form has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs – the Telegraph believes Spurs are chief among those suitors and are willing to pay £35 million for the teenager.
But Chimbonda, who made over 80 appearances for Tottenham during two spells in north London, claims Sessegnon is too young to join his former club.
“He’s still young, he’s good for the Championship but there’s a difference between being good in the Championship and arriving in the Premier League,” Chimbonda told Bet Stars.
“If he comes to Spurs he won’t play regularly or may go out on loan, he will only come on sometimes and that’s really hard for the player. I think he needs to go to a team below Spurs, where he will play football.”
Sessegnon’s season in numbers
With 14 goals and four assists, Sessegnon has had a hand in 18 (28.13%) of Fulham’s 64 goals in the Championship so far this season.
Per 90 minutes, he has averaged 1.04 key passes and created 1.15 chances for his teammates.
His passing accuracy rate, 74%, could be better, but Sessegnon has been on target with more than half of his shots (56%).
Overall, those are some very impressive numbers for a 17-year-old, and it’s not difficult to see why he is being chased by the likes of Spurs.
