“What a disaster” – Lionel Messi criticises Argentina FA ahead of Copa America final

Argentina captain and star forward Lionel Messi has taken a dig at the Argentine Football Association (AFA) after their flight was delayed on Thursday.

The Albiceleste are currently preparing for the Copa America final this weekend against Chile, after advancing to the showpiece with a 4-0 victory over the United States earlier this week.

Messi became the nation’s all-time leading scorer in that game with 55 to his name, overtaking the legendary Gabriel Batistuta in the process.

However, the 29-year-old – who celebrates his birthday today – was in no mood for laughing when he uploaded a photo on Instagram in the late hours of Thursday alongside Sergio Aguero on a plane.

Messi was less than impressed with the AFA with their flight from Houston grounded ahead of Sunday’s Copa America final against Chile in New Jersey.

The Barcelona star decided to take to Instagram to vent his frustration at the AFA ahead of the crunch-clash this weekend.

“Once again waiting on a plane to leave for our destination,” Messi wrote.

“What a disaster the AFA are. My god!”

The photo and comment from Messi prompted the AFA to actually release a statement, insisting it was out of their hands and the delay was due to the weather.

“The Argentine Football Federation informs that the flight which is transporting the national team to New Jersey suffered a delayed departure due to weather issues,” the statement read.

“Also, the AFA advises that all of the scheduled times of the transfers are designated by the organisers of the Copa America Centenario.”

Messi will be hoping to put all the off-the-field conflict to one side ahead of the game with Chile this weekend, as Argentina finally look to get their hands on some silverware.

Lionel Messi created 73 chances in La Liga this season.
