Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has become the latest manager to rubbish Marco van Basten’s suggestions for rule changes in football which no offside rule and sin-bins.
The German boss was talking ahead of his side’s league game against Swansea City on Saturday and Klopp was asked about the ideas suggested by Van Basten.
Van Basten’s comments have been one of the main talking points in press conferences all week, with not many in favour of any alterations to the current laws of the game.
A typically jovial Klopp said in his press conference (via the Mirror): “Most of the teams play against us without the offside rule!
“This wonderful game doesn’t need rule changes. What we are doing is bringing the game into danger, with the more teams in the World Cup.
“People are squeezing everything out of football that they can and they don’t care about the future of our game.
“Was it a real idea? He can invent another game, that’s not a problem to play something else. This game doesn’t need rule changes.”
Klopp is in agreement with Premier League bosses Arsene Wenger and Mauricio Pochettino while Rennes head coach Christian Gourcuff was clearly not impressed with Van Basten’s ideas.
Liverpool are currently in third seven points away from Premier League leaders Chelsea.
