The Ecuadorian international becomes their fifth signing of the summer as they look to improve under Head Coach Garry Monk. Swansea added Gylfi Sigurdsson yesterday, who returned to the side he previously spent six months on loan with, from Spurs. Swansea have also signed Bafetimbi Gomis, Marvin Emnes and Stephen Kingsley this summer.
Montero has signed a four-year deal at the Liberty Stadium, joining the Welsh club from Mexican top-flight side Morelia. The transfer fee is undisclosed.
He passed his medical today, joining in with first team pre-season training with his new team-mates under Monk.
Montero, comfortable with playing on either flank, previously spent time in Europe with Villarreal and featured heavily in his nation’s World Cup campaign this summer, which ended in the group stages.
He has had success with Ecuador in the past, however, as they won the 2007 Pan American games. He scored in the final as Ecuador beat Jamaica. Montero also won the Apertura Copa MX final in Mexico last season with Morelia.
Jefferson Montero was successful with 47.65% of his take-ons in the Apertura last season and completed 71 overall, more than any other player.
