Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has conceded that Tottenham would be worth of winning the top flight if they are able to claim their first ever Premier League title this season.
Tottenham are the Premier League’s in-form side having won their last seven matches, including the weekend’s 4-0 demolition of Watford.
It means the north London club have closed the gap to the top of the division to just four points with leaders Chelsea losing their second match in four matches on Sunday, a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Wright believe that the previously unstoppable Chelsea now look “vulnerable” and believes Tottenham have the ability to win all of their remaining league contests.
And, if that was enough to see them past Chelsea at the top of the division, Wright is willing to admit that the north London side would be the deserving winners of their first Premier League title.
Wright said to the Sun: “If Tottenham win their first league title since 1961, nobody could say they don’t deserve to be champions.
“Everyone was resigned to it being a procession rather than a race when Chelsea kicked off this month with a ten-point lead at the top.
“But while everyone else chucked in the towel and handed the crown to the Blues, Spurs have refused to abandon the chase. Now they’ve hunted down their rivals’ lead to just four points — and all the momentum is in their favour.
“There is no chance of Spurs collapsing in the run-in like last season because they are tougher and much more motivated. I said the other week I fancied them to win their remaining league games and the way they have performed recently has reinforced that belief.
“The Blues looked tired and vulnerable against a pumped-up Manchester United on Sunday and, suddenly, they are not quite so unstoppable.
“A couple of years ago, the top flight was dominated by Chelsea, United, City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Spurs have smashed their way into that group under Mauricio Pochettino and will be a genuine force to be reckoned with for years to come.”
