Spurs ‘will return for Ross Barkley in January’ following last-minute Chelsea snub

Tottenham Hotspur are determined to secure the services Ross Barkley in January after the midfielder snubbed a deadline day move to Chelsea.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who presently has a year left on his current deal, has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer.

One club heavily interested in acquiring his signature had been Spurs but, the Evening Standard reports, the club were reluctant to do business due to Barkley’s still needing to recover from an hamstring injury that will keep him out of action for at least another two months on top of Everton’s £30m valuation.

If the Liverpudlian remains at Goodison Park for the remainder of this season then he can leave next summer on a free transfer, with the powers that be in north London also confident that if they were to approach Everton in the January transfer window then the price tag would be considerably lower.

Nominally an attacking midfielder, though can play a little further back in central midfield, the 23-year-old has to date made 179 appearances for his boyhood club registering 27 goals and 28 assists in the process.
