Manchester United are still in the race for highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho and could sign him in the summer, the Telegraph reports.
The Red Devils had been heavily linked with a move for the highly sought-after youngster all of last summer and there were suggestions that they would complete a deal for the Portuguese international.
However, the move failed to materliase and Carvalho ended up staying put in Lisbon, but the aforementioned source reports the interest is still there, with United scouts frequently keeping tabs on him over the last two seasons.
Sporting put a £37 million release clause on the midfielder last season, the Telegraph indicates, but they are now prepared to lower their demands and that has enticed Manchester United.
Carvalho made two appearances for Portugal at the 2014 World Cup, but could not prevent his side from an early exit following a difficult group stage draw.
The 22-year-old appeared in all six Champions League games this season for the Portuguese outfit, creating six chances in the process.
They were knocked out of Chelsea’s group after finishing third and so entered the Europa League, where Carvalho made one appearance.
