Manchester United have made an enquiry about four Real Madrid players in the shape of forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale as well as defender Raphael Varane, according to AS.
The Red Devils finished fourth in the Premier League this season, having come seventh the season before, and a return to the Champions League constitutes a successful season for Louis van Gaal.
Now though the club will be targeting silverware either at home or in Europe and the aforementioned report claims that they are going to be targeting some of the biggest names in football.
AS suggests that United officials have contacted Madrid, requesting the ‘contract details’ for all four of the previously mentioned players but the answer from Madrid has been resounding no.
Ronaldo and Bale both have huge buy-out clauses and Los Blancos have no interest in selling them, wile although they were disappointed with Benzema in the second half of the season, he will be kept unless new coach Rafa Benitez decides otherwise.
Varane wants regular football but his contract was recently renewed until 2020 so the report says it isn’t expected that he will leave the Spanish capital.
A United line-up with those four in it would be formidable indeed and it is hard to imagine how it wouldn’t win the Premier League next season.
