Courtois is in negotiations with Chelsea over an extension to his contract, which has just over two years remaining, but Real maintain a strong interest in signing the Belgium international.
Courtois turned down a recent proposal of a £100,000 weekly wage and will instead seek double that amount in further negotiations, according to the Evening Standard.
The same publication quotes Courtois’ agent, Christophe Henrotay, as having told Belgium’s Sport magazine: “Obviously the biggest clubs are interested in Thibaut, and that includes the reigning European champions.
“He is a goalkeeper who wins you games, wins you trophies.
“I meet regularly with Real Madrid’s directors and Thibaut’s situation is evaluated. My role is to keep him informed of the situation.”
Is Courtois a better option than Navas?
Courtois kept more clean sheets and conceded fewer goals per game last season than Real Madrid’s current first-choice shot-stopper Keylor Navas.
However, Navas did come out on top with regards to saves made per game, while the Costa Rican also made a higher amount of catches and had a superior distribution accuracy rate.
At the age of 25, Courtois still has many years ahead of him at the highest level and will surely continue to be linked with a high-profile move to The Bernabeu, especially now it appears that Real’s lengthy pursuit of Manchester United’s David De Gea will prove unsuccessful.
