Pogba deserved Man of the Match award for Man Utd v Bournemouth – Jose Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho agreed with BT Sport’s decision to give Paul Pogba the Man of the Match award against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

Pogba provided his tenth assist of the season at the Vitality Stadium, making him the first United player to produce 10 or more assists in a single Premier League season since Angel Di Maria in 2014/15.

The midfielder finished off a bursting run with a clever through-ball for Romelu Lukaku, who finished from close range to put the visitors 2-0 on the night.

Pogba was generally impressive throughout – a far cry from his performance in United’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford last weekend.

And Mourinho was pleased with the Frenchman’s contribution against Bournemouth.

“I’m not very good on man of the match, I’m not a big fan of it, but Paul Pogba played very well,” he said, via Metro.

“Against Man City he was phenomenal but today he was very, very good. A good choice.”

Scholes slams “disrespectful” Pogba

Prior to the Bournemouth match, former United midfielder Paul Scholes didn’t hold back in his criticism of Pogba following his recent exploits.

Pogba failed to build on his two-goal display in the Manchester derby comeback earlier this month and was substituted after 58 minutes against West Brom on Saturday.

Asked about the 25-year-old’s weekend performance, Scholes replied, via Goal: “I thought it was a bit disrespectful against his manager the way he played here [against West Brom].”

“I think he’s wanted to come out and create the Paul Pogba show, which is good, which is what you need.” he added.

“But he’s gone out doing stupid things – they don’t win games. It’s crazy stuff. Bad passing, it’s so casual.”

Mourinho and Scholes will be hoping Pogba is able to turn it on again this weekend when United take on Tottenham at Wembley in the FA Cup final.
