Mbappe’s dribbling skills are superior to Henry’s at the same age – Petit

Former Monaco midfielder Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Kylian Mbappe is ahead of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in terms of how he uses the ball while running.

Mbappe has enjoyed a spectacular breakthrough season with Monaco that has led to him representing France at senior level, and Petit was full of praise for the runs that the prospect makes.

As reported by Goal, Petit said: “The two have very similar profiles in terms of where they play, their explosiveness, their physical power, the way they carry the ball.

“I think that Mbappe is ahead of Thierry Henry when it comes to using the ball when he’s moving with it.

“Many players only use the power of their speed. He’ll take the ball, knock it beyond an opponent and run in behind, which is not at all what Mbappe does.

“Mbappe runs intelligently. He’ll go into the space that develops and he’ll always try to avoid a direct confrontation with his marker. I find that where he’s ahead of Thierry Henry, but it was difficult in the context of the Spain match.

“But he must take away the positives. I really want to see him again in the France team soon.”

Kylian Mbappe has now made two senior appearances for France.

A skilful player, Mbappe has found the net on 12 occasions in Ligue 1 this season, while he has provided eight assists.

The starlet has already been linked with some of the biggest clubs in world football and certainly appears well equipped to perform consistently at the highest level.

Whether he can emulate the achievements of Henry, who enjoyed much success at Arsenal and Barcelona, as well as with the France national team, remains to be seen.

The comparisons between the two, however, are rather unsurprising, especially with Henry having also commenced his career at Monaco.

Kylian Mbappe has an average shot accuracy of 73% in Ligue 1 this season
