Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been preparing for this summer’s European Championships by touring the Middle East and in his latest stop, he revealed he went to visit the Islamic holy city of Mecca.
The German international was voted by fans as the Gunners’ Player of the Year last week after a brilliant campaign, which unfortunately couldn’t yield a third trophy in as many years.
With Arsenal not involved in any cup finals at the end of the season, Ozil took advantage of the opportunity of a brief getaway and posted an image on his official Instagram account of his trip to Mecca – something every healthy Muslim must perform at least once in a lifetime.
However, there is an ever-growing feeling among Gunners supporters that with the right striker playing ahead of the 27-year-old, then it would enable the club to mount a serious challenge for honours at home and abroad.
The playmaker also enjoyed a good season in front of goal as he scored in both games against Manchester United as well as the winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
He will now be aiming for European glory for the first time in his career as he has been picked in a multi-talented provisional German squad which head to France as one of the pre-tournament favourites to lift the trophy in July.
