Germany sealed top spot in Euro 2016’s Group C on Tuesday afternoon, through a Mario Gomez strike.
It meant the world champions finished above Poland on goal difference, with both sides having accumulated seven points, while Northern Ireland still have hopes of making the Round of 16 after ending the group stage in third place.
In Germany’s narrow victory, Ozil ran his side’s play with a dominant passing performance, in which he completed 99% of his attempted balls – superior to his already-excellent tournament average of 88%.
The Arsenal superstar found a teammate with 66/67 passes, with 62/63 being in the opposition’s half of the field.
He also created a team-high six chances, taking his tournament tally to 12 – a figure only Dimitri Payet (14) can beat.
Ozil impressed with his dribbling too, winning 3/4 take-ons, and even succeeded with both of his attempted tackles.
Ozil’s quest for success on the international stage will continue in Lille on Sunday, with Germany set to take on a third-placed team.
His solid start to the European Championships follows an exceptional season with Arsenal, in which he shone as the creative hub of the side.
Indeed, the Gunners’ No.11 made more assists (19) than any other player across Europe’s top five divisions, taking his team to second place in the Premier League.
