Kylian Mbappe posts farewell message to Monaco after completing PSG loan

Kylian Mbappe has penned an emotional farewell to AS Monaco following his loan move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Following a breakthrough 2016/17 campaign, the France international has joined PSG on a season-long loan deal – which will be made permanent next summer for €180 million (£165.9m) – despite being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, Manchester City and Arsenal this summer.

The teenager’s final days at the Stade Louis II stadium was clouded in controversy. He didn’t feature in games against Dijon and Metz, was an unused substitute in the 6-1 win over Marseille before the international break.

Furthermore, relations between himself and the club’s ultras soured in regards to his reported wage demands – with a statement being issued which criticised his conduct during the whole transfer saga.

Taking to his official Twitter account this afternoon, Mbappe has revealed that he understands being booed by supporters but insists there was “false information” spread about his situation,

“Dear Monaco fans,” he wrote.

“I just wanted to thank you for all the love you’ve shown me during our time together. Never have I been afforded such affection, support and strength.

“I know some of you don’t understand my choice and a feeling of anger has been born inside you – I understand. I also understand the boos during our last game, because false information has circulation throughout the “Mbappe Saga”.

“I haven’t changed, my entourage hasn’t changed, our values have stayed the same: humility, simplicity, respect.

“One thing is for certain: you can be angry, hate me or even boo me but you can never stop me from loving you because that is the truth – I love you”.

Having netted 26 goals across all competitions, Mbappe also had some kind words for what is still technically his parent club by thanking them – president Vadim Vasilyev in particular – for providing him with a platform to announce himself to the world.

“AS Monaco,” he added.

“If I am where I am, it’s thanks to you. You, my teammates who pushed me every day to reach your same talent ceiling, thank you.

“Thank you to the staff who helped me progress and reach certain objectives.

“Thank you Vadim, a great President but an even greater man. Sport measures humanity in millimetres and hundreths of seconds. Mr President, I thank you for having listened to me and supported me during (and even before) my professional career.

“You always believed in me, encouraged me, helped me. Without you ASM wouldn’t be what it is today – a great football club.

“See you soon.”
