I hope to be invited to Paulo Dybala’s inevitable Ballon d’Or party, jokes Chievo goalkeeper

Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino believes that Juventus midfielder Paulo Dybala is capable of winning the Ballon d’Or in the future.

Dybala emerged off the bench to score past Sorrentino in Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Chievo yesterday.

The pair were previously team-mates at Palermo and Sorrentino has backed Dybala to eventually become the best player in the world.

Sorrentino told Mediaset Premium (via Football Italia): “It would’ve been better for us today if he had continued to warm up and not come on.

“I am fortunate enough to know him very well and I am therefore not remotely surprised by how well he’s doing. I was able to play with Dybala for two and a half years, so imagine the number of times I had to fly to my right and left in training.

“He can still improve a great deal and will become the best. He has everything it takes to win the Ballon d’Or – I just hope when it happens, he invites me to the party.”

Dybala’s goal against Chievo came after he dribbled past several players before shooting, with Sorrentino left hugely impressed by the quality of the strike.

“When Dybala takes on players like that, it’s really tough to anticipate him. A lot of his game is about timing and with that left foot he can do what he wants. It’s all very complicated being a goalkeeper against him.”

While it is difficult to envisage Dybala winning the Ballon d’Or while Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still performing to an incredibly high standard, the 23-year-old will surely have a good chance of securing the prize once those two players are retired.

A superb dribbler, Dybala has been successful with 81 per cent of the take-ons that he has attempted in Serie A this season, while he has an impressive pass completion rate of 85 per cent.
