Obertan joined Newcastle from Manchester United five years ago but struggled for his consistency during his time at St. James’ Park.

The Frenchman’s disappointing Newcastle career is perhaps best summed up by the fact that he mustered just two goals in 58 league appearances for the club.
Obertan becomes the third player to leave Newcastle on Wednesday, with defender Daryl Janmaat having moved to Watford, while Henri Saivet has joined St. Etienne on a season-long loan move. The winger possesses pace and the ability to take players on, but he often struggles with his decision-making, particularly in the final third.
Newcastle have been heavily active in the transfer market this summer, with Rafael Benitez having secured deals for eight players- Matz Sels, Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, Jesus Gamez, Isaac Hayden, Grant Hanley, Ciaran Clark and Mohamed Diame having all joined the club.
Their start to the season has been rather mixed, however, with the Magpies having won two and lost two of their four Championship fixtures so far.
Newcastle host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday in their next fixture as they seek to pick up more points in their quest to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
