Davide Zappacosta scored a “wonderful goal” in Torino’s 3-1 victory over Chievo, Sinisa Mihajlovic has insisted.
The 24-year-old doubled the visitors lead early in the second half at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi as he thumped home an effort from just outside the area after the ball kindly fell for him following a corner which was only partially cleared.
That strike opened the defender’s account for the season in Serie A and such is the rarity of him finding the back of the net that even Mihajlovic, who rarely celebrates goals on the touchline, admitted that he got a little bit carried away.
“It was a wonderful goal,”Mihajlovic said, as reported by Football Italia.
“He can do these things and has improved a great deal in his attacking moves as well as defending, so has become a really impressive player.”
Further strikes from Adem Ljajic and Iago Falque sealed maximum points for Torino which enabled them to climb into ninth in the table following Sampdoria’s home defeat at the hands of Crotone yesterday afternoon.
Zappacosta has been a regular for Mihajlovic this season, making a total of 26 appearances in the top flight of Italian football – 21 of which as a starter – and has registered more assists than any defender across the entire squad (5).
