Chelsea have confirmed that talented young full-back Jay Da Silva is one of five players who have put pen to paper on professional contracts, via the club’s official website.
The club have announced 14 players who will join as scholars and five of last year’s crop who have been handed professional contracts by the club.
DaSilva joined Chelsea in 2012 from Luton Town along with his twin younger brothers Cole and Rio, with Cole handed a scholar’s contract.
Jay has been a permanent fixture in the club’s youth academy and last summer he played in pre-season, most notably away at AFC Wimbledon.
He has been widely praised by many pundits and some fans are starting to speculate that he could be the next player to play at left-back for the first team with Cesar Azpilicueta moving over to the right.
The Spaniard replaced Ashley Cole at left-back and fans think that DaSilva could be the next player to fill Cole’s shoes which would allow Azpilicueta to go over to his natural side.
DaSilva is likely to stay with Adi Viveash’s U21 side for the coming season and it will be interesting to see whether manager Jose Mourinho decides he should go on loan or join the first team.
