Belgium youth international full-back Castagne was linked with a move to Nice but Atalanta have beat the Ligue 1 side to meet the 21-year-old’s reported release clause of €6 million.
Meanwhile, Pessina has joined from Serie A rivals Milan as part of the deal which saw Andrea Conti move in the opposite direction.
The Italy under-20 international joins Atalanta as part of a €24m package which saw Conti move to the San Siro.
However, the 20-year-old defender Pessina could be immediately loaned out to Serie B side Spezia, according to Football Italia.
