Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is yet to bolster his squad this summer, aside from the arrival of goalkeeper Petr Cech, but judging by the speculation in the rumour mill today there could be plenty of ins and outs very soon.
The Gunners brought in Cech earlier this week from rivals Chelsea – a signing which has really lifted the spirits at the Emirates heading into the new season.
However, despite Cech’s obvious qualities, Arsene Wenger will be fully aware his troops need more strengthening in various other areas of the pitch.
After spending well in the last couple of windows on the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal fans are excited about the future.
Here is all the latest surrounding the Gunners’ potential signings and imminent departures, heading into the weekend.
Lukas Podolski is on the brink of a permanent transfer to Galatasaray after it was confirmed that the Germany international would be leaving. Podolski’s agent, Nassim Touihri, has confirmed that Wenger wanted the 30-year-old forward to stay but could not guarantee regular game time, which prompted the 2014 World Cup winner to look elsewhere – the Turk Telecom Arena to be precise – for a fresh start. Podolski managed one goal in 17 Serie A games for Inter Milan last season. (Guardian)
Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas’ agent Cristian Olgade has played down reports linking the Chilean with a move to Arsenal, but admits it is normal for there to be links. Speculation has arisen that the Gunners could be interested in the 25-year-old after his performances for Chile at the Copa America, with Alexis Sanchez, his international compatriot, perhaps keen for his arrival to North London. However, Olgade admits there is nothing to the rumour. Vargas completed 20/37 take ons for QPR in the league last season. (IBTimes)
Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta claims that no bids have been made for midfielder Arturo Vidal, as speculation continues to mount around the tenacious star’s future. Vidal has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, but Marotta insists Wenger and his men have not made an offer for the 28-year-old, nor have any other club in the market. Vidal won 74/165 tackles in Serie A last season. (Daily Express)
Alexandre Lacazette’s agent David Venditelli has confirmed that his client and he have made it clear to Lyon this summer what their demands are, and admits a number of clubs have put big money on the table for the striker’s services. Lacazette’s form last season was remarkable as Lyon impressed in Ligue 1 and Arsenal are said to be one of the clubs keen on the France international, who looks set to leave the Stade de Gerland this summer. Lacazette had a 67% shot accuracy in Ligue 1 last season. (Daily Star)
Atletico Madrid have reignited their interest in Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, as Diego Simeone reaffirms his desire to snap up the 30-year-old. Cazorla, who joined Arsenal in 2012 from Malaga, has just one year left on his deal and his fine showings last season has alerted Atletico once again. The attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Vicente Calderon and latest suggestions are Simeone is keen to revive his interest in the Spain international. Only Sanchez (79) created more chances than Cazorla (78) in the league for Arsenal last season. (Daily Mail)
Meanwhile, Arsenal are expected to sign William Carvalho for €28m. The Gunners are set to beat arch rivals Sporting Lisbon to his signature too. The powerhouse had a 60% shot accuracy during the 2014/15 Champions League campaign. (Telegraph)
