Ramsey, who’s been at the club since 2008, has been awarded the No.8 shirt after former captain Arteta wasn’t offered an extension to his contract and retired from football.
There had been plenty of speculation amongst Arsenal fans over who was going to be the player to take the shirt, with many believing that either Jack Wilshere or Mesut Ozil would’ve taken the number.

However Ramsey, who was previously No.16, has been given it, following in the footsteps of Alexis Sanchez who recently switched from No.17 to No.7.
The 25-year-old, who’s going to the European Championships with Wales this summer, had played on the right and in the centre of midfield this season for the Gunners.
He’s played alongside either Santi Cazorla or Mohamed Elneny recently, but now the club have added another player to their ranks in the middle of the park.
Arsenal announced yesterday that they had completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. As of now, the Swiss midfielder still hasn’t been assigned a squad number at the club.
