Argentina announce 35-man preliminary squad for the 2018 World Cup

Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli has today announced his preliminary 35-man squad for this summers World Cup in Russia.

As expected, Sampaoli has included world stars such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria, and Paulo Dybala.

There are also a number of added Premier League players given the nod including Wilfredo Caballero (Chelsea), Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City), Ramiro Funes Mori (Everton) and Manuel Lanzini (West Ham United).

Like every other squad, Argentina will eventually be cut down to just 23 players by 4th June, with Sampaoli facing some difficult decisions.

With seven star forwards included in this announcement, who will face the chop come June is yet to be decided.

With Messi – barring injury – guaranteed a place in the squad, there are arguably just four or five spaces left.

With Aguero still to fully return from injury, Sampaoli may not wish to take a chance on the forward, despite his obvious talents.
